Snow Day

The new year began, and we already had a "Snow Day." Schools were closed, and even my office shut down. The temptation to spend the day binging shows and movies was strong, but my church dedicates the beginning of the year to fasting and focusing on God. We call it the Sacred Season, which, for whatever reason, stirred something deeper in me this year. Instead of letting the day slip away, I chose to study the Book of Proverbs and work on my book.

I’ll admit, this wasn’t easy by a long shot. I’d love to say it was pure discipline, but the truth is, I wrestle with distractions—the pull of Facebook, Instagram, and everything else in between. Yet, this day I overcame by God’s grace and His strength, not mine.

This experience reminds me of Proverbs 16:3: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Today was a reminder that surrendering our time to God can yield far more than fleeting moments of entertainment. I'd love to hear how you spent your snow day and what distractions you wrestle with.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What areas of your life might benefit from surrendering your time and focus to God rather than distractions or entertainment?

 2. How can you practice committing your daily plans to the Lord so He can establish them, as Proverbs 16:3 encourages?

I don’t have snow days here in Florida but still get distracted. Aiming to not get distracted with social media but making specific time in the beginning of my day to focus on prayer and continue reading my Bible in a year challenge.
