Valentine's Day is often celebrated as a time of romantic love, filled with chocolates, flowers, cards, dinners, and other impressive niceties. But beyond all these gestures, there is a love that surpasses all human affection- a love that is unchanging, unconditional, and unwavering. It's the love of God, the only perfect love we will ever know.

Psalm 145:8-9 TPT reminds us of the depth of His love:

"You're kind and tenderhearted to those who don't deserve it and very patient with people who fail you. Your love is like a flooding river overflowing its banks with kindness. God, everyone sees your goodness, for your tender love is blended into everything you do."

God's love is steadfast, unlike human love, which can be fickle and dependent on emotions. He loves us not because of what we do but because of who He is. His love is patient, kind, and never withdrawn-even when we fall short.

God's love is not passive either; it actively pursues us. From the beginning, He has been calling us to Himself, longing for a relationship with us. Even when we turn away, He never stops chasing after our hearts.

Jesus demonstrated this love in the most profound way, laying down His life for us. "But Christ proved God's passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly!" (Romans 5:8 TPT). He didn't wait for us to be perfect before extending His love; He loved us even at our worst. That kind of love is beyond understanding.

So many people are struggling today on Valentine's Day. They may be feeling unloved, lonely, or unworthy. If that's you today, know this: You are deeply loved by the One who created you. His love is not based on your relationship status, past, or mistakes. His love is healing, restoring, and life-giving. The world's love comes with conditions but God's love is unconditional. Remember that you are deeply loved no matter where you are or what you're going through right now. Rest in that truth today.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Reflection Questions:

  1. How have you experienced God's love in your own life, even when you felt undeserving?

  2. In what ways do you struggle to receive or believe in God's unconditional love for you?

  3. Is there someone in your life who needs to be reminded of God's love? How can you encourage them? (text, phone call, letter).

  4. Take a few moments to pray and thank God for His perfect love. Write down one truth from God's Word that reassures you of His love.
